Ensinger plans sale of Thermix business

Negotiations with Fenzi Group from Italy

Ensinger intends to sell its Thermix® business. The division develops and produces spacer profiles for insulated glass. As announced by Ensinger, exclusive negotiations are underway with the Italian company Alu Pro regarding a complete acquisition of Thermix. Alu Pro is part of the Fenzi Group, a provider of chemicals, high performance sealants and spacers for the glass processing industry. It is expected that the transaction will soon be completed, subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

Dr. Roland Reber, Managing Director at Ensinger, gave some background to the negotiations for the sale: “The market for insulated glass spacers has been struggling with overcapacities for several years. As a result, the achievable returns – along the entire value added chain – have decreased further and further. Selling the Thermix business will allow us to focus more strongly on Ensinger’s core areas of business.”

Employees in Cham and Ravensburg affected

The Thermix spacers are produced in Cham, the largest production site of the Ensinger Group. Alongside around 50 employees working for Thermix at the Bavarian subsidiary plant and eleven in a sales office in Ravensburg. Globally, Ensinger is employing a total workforce of 2,500.

Discussions are currently in progress between the Human Resources department and the Works Council with the aim of reconciling the interests of both sides. “Together, we are endeavouring to find a good solution for as many employees as possible”, said Dr. Reber.

About Thermix

Thermix spacers improve the thermal separation of insulated glass windows, doors and facades. This helps save energy and consequently heating and cooling costs as well as cutting carbon emissions. As an insulated glazing edge bond system, Thermix spacers provide a "warm edge". In addition, Thermix muntin bars produce the appearance of a genuine lattice window but with an excellent level of insulation. Both products can be simply and efficiently processed. Specially developed corner keys and straight connectors ensure well-fitting and secure connections every time. Thermix is a brand of Ensinger, one of the leading specialists in high-performance plastics.
