At Ensinger, we strive to be your steadfast partner on this journey. We focus on reducing our CO2 footprint, aiming for net zero in Scope 1 - 3 according to GHG protocol. These actions include energy-saving measures and environmental efforts, which help to fulfill our responsibility to nature.

Certified Environment Management

As part of our ‘Prepare for Tomorrow’ initiative, we have implemented an environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001. The system helps us to systematically identify the environmental aspects of our operations, set targets and measures, and regularly review their implementation.
The specific scope, the sites covered and the status of the certification are disclosed transparently. With this environmental management system, we are establishing a foundation for continuously assessing and improving relevant environmental aspects, such as resource and energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in our processes.

Certified Energy Management

Ensinger holds the ISO 50001 certification, signifying our adherence to an internationally recognized standard for effective energy management systems. ISO 50001 guides organizations in monitoring, measuring, controlling and continually enhancing their energy performance, resulting in efficient energy consumption reduction. Learn more about energy management.

Ready for the next step: Targeted reduction of product carbon footprints

Reducing the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of our products is a key area of focus on the path to achieving our net-zero target. In the case of high-temperature plastics, changes to processing parameters – such as the required process temperatures – are often only possible to a limited extent without compromising the necessary material and quality requirements.
We are therefore examining and pursuing measures within our production processes in particular: the use of renewable energy, investments to improve the energy efficiency of our plants, and the development and evaluation of alternative materials. Where technically and application-specifically suitable, these include materials containing a defined proportion of recycled content or a bio-based component. We publish current key figures, projects and progress in our Sustainability Report. These measures support the implementation of our net-zero target for 2046, which has been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.

  • There are many regulations that develop dynamically due to political, environmental and demographic factors. Some of these are shown in the graphic below.
  • Ensinger offers material solutions made from bio-based raw materials, as well as materials produced from reprocessed production residues.
    In the case of bio-based plastics, the raw material components may come from renewable sources or suitable biological residues, such as those from the timber industry or from organic waste. For reprocessed products, production residues from machining or manufacturing processes are mechanically processed and reused as raw materials.
    This enables customers to select material solutions that not only meet the technical requirements of their application but also take into account specific requirements regarding the raw material base and material cycles.
  • Biomass balanced signifies the incorporation of organic raw materials, sourced from kitchen or agricultural waste or residues from the wood industry for instance. Through a chemical process, these materials are transformed into bio-based monomers, which is then blended with fossil monomers and processed through the same chemical reactions into polymers as pure fossil products. The resulting mixture, comprising both bio and fossil monomers, is classified as biomass balanced.

    The distinction between biomass balanced and mass balanced lies in the source materials. Biomass balanced products use organic raw materials, while mass balanced products may utilise chemically recycled plastic monomers, among other sources, blended with fossil monomers during production.
