Highly filled PPS Powder for the production of bipolar plates

Bipolar plates for fuel cells must be resistant to thermal, chemical and mechanical stresses and at the same time have good electrical and thermal conductivity. Ensinger TECACOMP HTE compounds achieve exceptionally high electrical and thermal values due to a very high filling level of carbon-based additives for plastic compounds.

TECACOMP PPS HTE PW black based on polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) is optimised for improved electrical and thermal conductivity with graphite and conductive carbon black. The semi-crystalline, high temperature resistant base polymer PPS provides high chemical resistance, even to phosphoric acid, with excellent mechanical strength. The highly conductive material is characterised by low water absorption, good dimensional stability at temperatures up to 240°C and special electrical properties. In addition, PPS is flame retardant.

The extremely low viscosity grade is suitable for the production of components for bipolar plates (high temperature PEM fuel cells or PAFC fuel cells) as well as for plates for heat exchangers in the hot-pressing process. The special particle size distribution of the compound in powder form is optimised for a subsequent manufacturing process in the HCC process. TECACOMP PPS HTE PW black has been validated by the Centre for Fuel Cell Technology (ZBT) for use in fuel cells.
