Electrically conductive PEEK with carbon fibre reinforcement

TECAPEEK ELS CF30 black is a 30 % conductive carbon fibre filled PEEK material that has been developed as a solution for applications requiring high stiffness while maintaining consistent conductivity. Conventional carbon fibres, for example used in TECAPEEK CF30 black, reinforces the mechanical properties but do not have a defined conductivity, thus result in an unstable surface resistivity between 103 – 1012 Ω/sq. Carbon black or carbon nanotubes such as used in conductive grades like TECAPEEK ELS nano black result in stable conductivity but no mechanical reinforcement. The special carbon fibre filler system of TECAPEEK ELS CF30 black combines both advantages of mechanical enhancement and stable surface resistivity between 102 – 104  Ω/sq. Furthermore, carbon fibre modified materials are less abrasive than glass fibre modified materials, while also having enhanced friction and wear properties. The outstanding properties of PEEK natural such as excellent thermal resistance (up to 260 °C), low CLTE, and low moisture absorption are retained by TECAPEEK ELS CF30 black.

This conductive material is suitable for highly stressed parts requiring electric static discharge (ESD) protection with a high decay rate; therefore, it is commonly used in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing equipment components. TECAPEEK ELS CF30 black is included in Ensinger's semiconductor grade portfolio, that is produced with stringent contamination controls and offering copy exact compliance. In this way, Ensinger ensures the highest level of quality performance consistency of this unique property profile.

In cases where higher dimensional stability during machining is required, we recommend our alternative conductive PEEK (TECAPEEK ELS nano black). For more controlled static dissipation, Ensinger offers TECAPEEK SD black with a surface resistivity between 106 – 109 Ω/sq.

As with all Ensinger semiconductor grade materials, we can confirm that TECAPEEK ELS CF30 black meets the limitations imposed by RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU Restriction of Hazardous Substances in electrical equipment, and can also provide further conformity declarations on request.
