PVDF - Polyvinylidene fluoride

TECAFLON PVDF Ensinger Plastics

PVDF material (chemically known as polyvinylidene fluoride) is manufactured by Ensinger in standard stock shapes for machining  in sheet and rods. Polyvinylidene fluoride is an opaque, semi crystalline, thermoplastic fluoropolymer. PVDF is characterised by excellent chemical resistance without having the disadvantages of low mechanical values and/or processing difficulties which can be experienced with other fluoroplastics. The material PVDF shows a melting point of 171°C.

PVDF Material properties and specifications

PVDF properties include the following:

  • Low density compared to other fluoropolymers
  • Dood mechanical strength compared to other fluoropolymers
  • High permanent operating temperature (140°C)
  • Practically no moisture absorption
  • Good dimensional stability
  • High chemical resistance
  • Good resistance to hydrolysis
  • UV resistance
  • Radiation resistance
  • Good electrical insulation
  • High abrasion resistance

Manufactured PVDF Materials

PVDF polymer is manufactured by Ensinger under the tradename TECAFLON. The Ensinger TECAFLON PVDF family contains the following modifications:
  • TECAFLON PVDF natural - unfilled PVDF
  • TECAFLON PVDF ELS black - electrically conductive PVDF
  • TECAFLON PVDF CF8 - carbon fibre reinforced PVDF

Ensinger is a supplier of PVDF shapes such as:

  • PVDF rod
  • PVDF sheet

TECAFLON PVDF natural

This unreinforced material is Ensinger's basic type of PVDF offering. It combines high density, high strength, and high chemical resistance, with very low moisture absorption...

Typical PVDF applications

  • Chemical plant engineering with higher mechanical stress
  • Food and pharmaceutical industries with higher temperatures and mechanical loadings
  • Valves
  • Filter plates
  • Fittings
  • Pipelines
  • Coil bodies
