PPSU medical grade

TECASON P MT

TECASON P MT (PPSU) is a high performance medical grade plastic with exceptional resistance to common sterilization techniques, especially hot steam sterilization. Together with its good resistance to cleaning agents and disinfectants, TECASON P MT gives added safety in medical applications and could extend the application life cycle in the harsh hospital environment.

The fields of application are vast, spanning many medical segments like joint reconstruction, traumatology, and spine, to name just a few. TECASON P MT is often used for surgical instruments, tool handles, and implant trials including femoral and tibial components for knee, hip, and shoulder replacement processes, as well as for a vast number of sterilization trays and caddies.

Biocompatibility

TECASON P MT is suitable for all medical applications that require biocompatibility with limited contact with skin and tissue for up to 24 hours, and, where applicable, indirect contact with blood.

TECASON P MT plastics are tested according to ISO 10993 .  USP Class VI information is available for the raw material.

Key characteristics

The material has high thermal resistance, excellent mechanical properties and toughness. In particular, PPSU offers very good impact strength, which helps to withstand shock stresses that often occur during medical surgery. Other properties include:

  • Resistant to repeated hot steam sterilization
  • Resistant to cleaning agents, disinfectants and various solvents
  • Excellent dimensional stability
  • High impact strength and notched impact strength
  • Low water absorption
  • Very good electrical insulation

Steam sterilisation resistance

Hot steam sterilization: TECASON P MT shows no significant loss of mechanical properties until 800 sterilization cycles.
Also, significant discoloration is not seen below 1,000 sterilization cycles.
Sterilisation tests were performed using plastic test specimens without cleaning cycles. The sterilisation temperature was 134°C with a sterilisation time of 10 min. and a drying time of 20 min. The chamber pressure was 3 bar. Other effects influencing the cleaning process (with Ecolab, Borer etc.) were not investigated. Due to the chemical resistance of the individual materials and practical experience it must be assumed that the cleaning cycles have a significant influence on the sterilisation resistance. The sterilisation resistance, in particular of PP-HT and to a lesser degree POM-C, is significantly impaired by this. It must therefore be assumed that the sterilisation resistance will be significantly lower than described. We typically define PP-HT with approx. 200 sterilisation cycles and POM-C with approx. 300 - 400 cycles.

TECASON P MT materials

Ensinger's PPSU medical grade TECASON P MT is available in many standard colors from stock. This allows greater flexibility when designing your applications, e.g. to easily distinguish between different instruments and sizes, or differentiate from competitors' products by color branding. Furthermore, TECASON P MT rods can be ordered in a wide range of dimensions, which offers our customers optimized supply chain coordination, thus fulfilling our customers' delivery time needs.

Radel 5500 grey (TECASON P MT)

TECASON P MT grey is suitable for use in medical applications. TECASON P MT grey is just one of the many color options available in this family of products.

Radel 5500 blue (TECASON P MT)

TECASON P MT blue is suitable for use in medical applications. In many medical applications, it is often desirable for designers to have a number colors to choose.

X-ray detectable PPSU - TECASON P MT XRO

TECASON P MT XRO is a medical grade PPSU with good visibility and radiography. A contrast medium added to the standard TECASON P MT line permits clear visibility of components under fluoroscopy and X-ray radiation. It provides the surgeon with a precise picture of their instruments or of orthopaedic trial implants during image controlled procedures.

Test Implants for Knee Joint Reconstruction

Manufacturers of knee reconstruction products are now in a global market for sales and customers. Apart from the actual implant, tools and instruments are of increasing importance. These facilitate handling during the operation, enhance patient safety and may even reduce the follow-up expenses for reprocessing. These instruments include test implants, which sometimes serve to differentiate products from the competitors.
