Nyrim is the right material for robust parts and semi-finished products

The casting process using Nyrim is also known as RIM (reaction injection moulding). TECARIM, the commercial name used by Ensinger, includes a product group containing tough, highly resistant polyamide 6 block copolymers manufactured using this reactive casting process. The casting process is done without additional pressure.

Cast parts with weights between 0.5 kg and 35 kg can be produced, parts with weights below 1 kg can be realized with multicity moulds. The process is especially well suited for large-volume moulded parts, in particular if they are constructed with thick walls or major differences in wall thickness. Producing parts using a TECARIM process is especially useful if the quantity is too high for machining, thus, making it uneconomical, while injection moulding cannot be used due to the dimensionally large part sizes, wall thickness or large varience of the wall thickness as well as small production numbers.

Nyrim products have a unique profile of properties with a wide range of variation in impact resistance, stiffness and strength at low temperatures, primarily influenced by the percentage of elastomer.

Types and modifications

Standard types

The following basic types are produced with up to a 40% elastomer component

  • TECARIM 1000

  • TECARIM 1525, reinforced with 25% glass fibres or glass beads with high structural strength and good impact resistance
  • TECARIM 2025, reinforced with 25% glass fibres or glass beads with a balance of good impact resistance, structural strength and stiffness


Individual adjustments are possible depending on the application through the use of lubricants, MoS2, heat stabilisers, UV stabilisers and pigment additives.


The standard colour settings for TECARIM are yellow, blue and black. Individual dying is possible for series production of large quantities. Colour modifications can be created using specialised colour pigments.

Impact resistance

TECARIM products do not show brittle fractures. The material maintains its tough properties down to -40 °C, and is an excellent choice for cryo-applications under high mechanical loads. TECARIM is extremely impact resistant, which differentiates it from common PA 6 and allows for applications that could previously only be handled with metal materials.

The linear-elastic behaviour and resulting proportional relationship between stress and strain for TECARIM is similar to PA 6.

Slide and friction

Sliding properties can be improved through the addition of lubricants fitting to the applications. Example coefficients of friction vary by type and external conditions:

  • Dry running: 0.25-0.35
  • Water lubricated: 0.15-0.25
  • Grease or oil lubricated: 0.05-0.12

Tensile strength

Although TECARIM does not show brittle fracturing, the strength of the material is comparable to a PA 6. Its strength is determined, for instance, by its tensile strength.

The hardness of TECARIM is comparable to PA 6.  However, it does not splinter under loads, but instead deforms.

This material offers extremely good damping properties. Its unique material structure and damping behaviour are key factors allowing it to be used as damper.

Wear resistance

TECARIM improves on the already high abrasion resistance which characteristic of polyamides, which is beneficial in particular in low temperature applications (down to -40 °C).

Water absorption

The water absorption depends on the degree of modification. The graphic shown here indicates that absorption. TECARIM does not have to be conditioned before the application (such as for spring relief blocks). This means it achieves its outstanding tough properties both in conditioned and non-conditioned states.

Chemical resistance

The chemical resistance of Nyrim (TECARIM) is comparable to other polyamides. It is resistant to diluted acids and bases, solvents, technical oils and greases and fuels.

UV resistance

Specialised UV stabilisers or colouring using carbon black offer good UV resistance when exposed to the weather.


Testing is essential to make reliable statements on the material's suitability under application-relevant conditions, to understand the dependencies between temperature, concentration, tension and loading conditions and contact time.
